Top 5 Things To Remember For Your Super Bowl Party

I am of the understanding that there is a huge tournament final this weekend where two groups of padding bedecked warriors face-off and pummel each other in order to move an oblong spheroid across a designated vertical plane allowing them to acquire a higher number of specially assigned points than the other group.

I’m not going to lie, I’m not a sports fan.  I played sports when I was young, including a year of football in high school.  But I don’t believe I’ll ever understand those people who schedule their Sundays so they can watch every game, or those people who can tell you Mickey Mantles ERA in 1948.

I do, however, enjoy the Super Bowl.  It’s a huge party and everyone has something to enjoy.  There’s the game itself (but if your team didn’t make it, who cares,) the commercials (my personal favorite given my marketing education,) and the half-time shows (we can always hope for another “accidental” nip-slip.)

So for that game, at least, I always find someplace to go I have a party myself.  Now throwing a good Superbowl party doesn’t seem like it would be difficult, and depending on who you invite, it’s not.  Regardless of who is coming, there are certain things you absolutely must have in order to ensure your party’s success.   Here are the Top 5 Things you Must Remember for Your Super Bowl Extravaganza:

  1. A Great Big TV:  Now, according to PC Magazine this year’s Super Bowl will not be in 3D, so no need to go out and get a bunch of goofy glasses. Still you want something that you and your guests will be able to see without difficulty where ever they happen to be sitting.  So buy, rent, or borrow the largest screen you can.  Luckily for us there are flat panel TVs these days, so you no longer have to haul three tons of tube to the best location in the house.
  2. Proper Seating:  I have been to more people’s homes for Super Bowl Sunday to find no place to sit than I can remember.  There is no excuse for not having enough seating for the people you invite over.  Everyone wants to pop a squat during the game so they can enjoy their burger and beer, so make sure you have someplace for them to do so.  So, come on and rent or borrow some chairs from where you can.
  3. Cleaning Supplies:  Everyone thinks that ordering a bunch of pizza, making some hot dogs, and having chips and dip is fine.  That is, until someone’s slice of double-pepperoni ends up splattered on the new carpet.  So stock up on paper towels, spot shot, bleach, and ammonia, because wing sauce is hard to get out of the couch fabric the next morning.
  4. Enough Food:  I’ve done it myself.  Ordered 5 pizzas for the 10 people I was having over only to have 20 show up.  And if you haven’t tried ordering pizza at game-time in the past, well, don’t bother.  It won’t get there until the post-game wrap-up.  So that’s first, order enough of whatever you’re planning on.  Next, get different things.  You may love Doritos and hate Funyons, but your best-friend’s girlfriend’s cousin who happened to stop buy loves the shit out of some Funyons.  So buy diversity.
  5. BEER:  Well, now.  This one is a no brainer.  Of course you need beer at a Super Bowl Party.  That’s like saying you need water in an ocean.  It’s a given.  Ah, but what type of beer?  Sure you could buy the cheap yellow swill that will spend millions on advertising to you with all the shiny, or you could do yourself and your guests, and the world a favor and buy something local, and tasty, and good.

So there you have it folks.  There are only a few days left before the big game, and if the party is at your house this year, you had better get to cracking and make sure your guests are comfortable, well fed, and have the view they deserve.

And now for no particular reason what-so-ever, here is a slideshow of some lovely ladies from the Lingerie Football League care of John Pozadzides.
